This just shows the versatility of stroganoff, making it however you want and with whatever you have available in your pantry, the important thing is to have flavor.
Here in our version that we are going to show here, the stroganoff recipe gains a particularity, replacing the cognac with white wine, providing a more special flavor.
Another important point of this recipe is the seasonings, such as Worcestershire sauce, mustard and ketchup. In fact, one suggestion is to replace the ketchup with tomato paste, along with finely chopped tomatoes.
Finally, the trick here is not to add flour (or cornstarch) when preparing the broth, which thickens it. For those who like it more liquid, it goes great with a deep plate of white rice. But there are those who prefer it thicker, so it's a matter of taste!
SHRIMP STROGONOFF
Ingredients:
- Shrimps, already cleaned – 600 g
- Butter – 1 tablespoon
- Medium onion – 1 unit
- Garlic cloves – 2 units
- Worcestershire sauce – 1 tablespoon
- White wine – 1 cup
- Canned mushrooms – 200 g
- Ketchup – 5 tablespoons (or more if you want)
- Mustard – 2 tablespoons
- Sour cream – 2 boxes
- A pinch of hot paprika or cayenne pepper (optional)
- White rice and straw potatoes to serve
Method of preparation:
- Start by making your rice the way you always do, because it will be the one that accompanies your stroganoff.
- Then season the shrimp using salt, black pepper and a generous pinch of spicy paprika or any other type of intense pepper powder such as cayenne (it can be an extra item that adds more flavor).
- Then, with the chopped onion and garlic, heat a medium pan with the butter and sauté everything over medium heat, until it starts to turn golden, around 5 minutes.
- Now add the garlic and continue to sauté for a minute and add the shrimp to the pan to finish sautéing, stir well so that they can gain more color.
- So, when they turn pink, add Worcestershire sauce and white wine and mix, letting it boil for about 5 minutes, reducing and eliminating the alcohol.
- Then, add the mushrooms and mix, also adding the ketchup and mustard and mix again.
- After tasting one of the shrimp, check to see if it is cooked. Remove from the heat once cooked and add the cream. Then adjust the salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce or ketchup.
- Because of the ketchup, it may turn out too spicy. In this case, you can season it with more salt and Worcestershire sauce and get it to the right consistency. Finally, just serve it sprinkled with parsley and with white rice and straw potatoes.

- Then, it will remain from this shrimp meat and the tail, if you prefer to eat it without the tail, hold the tip tightly and pull, the same thing as taking off the head.
- Use a sharp knife to open (from outside to outside) the “backs” of these shrimp, slightly so as not to go too deep.
- Still using this knife, separate very briefly between the sides you made in the opening, which makes cleaning easier.
