Fun facts about condensed milk:

A bit of history

Condensed milk began to be produced in 1856, as an attempt to dehydrate milk. That is, the company Anglo Swiss Condensed started manufacturing condensed milk. That's when other brands emerged, such as Nestlé, in 1867.

Thus, in 1905, these two companies merged and the Nestlé & Anglo Swiss Condensed Milk Co. was born.

In fact, the classic peasant label made this product known worldwide.

However, the brand became so well-known and had such a strong identity that “La Lechera” in Spanish and “Milkmaid” in English were names adopted by countries.

In Brazil, this condensed milk arrived in 1890, which was an alternative to fresh milk due to supply problems, thus becoming popularly known as “girl's milk”.

Ally of World War II

The role of condensed milk after the Second World War was fundamental as it became the most used ingredient in the preparation of sweets and desserts, replacing whole milk.

The brigadier

In 1945, a woman from Rio made a sweet made from condensed milk that she called “brigadeiro” as a way of supporting the presidential campaign of the candidate for President of the Republic, Brigadeiro Eduardo Gomes.

The sale of the Brigadeiro served to raise funds for the Brigadeiro's campaign, which was defeated in the elections by the victory of General Eurico Gaspar Dutra.
