1 – Homemade tortilla
To prepare this recipe you will need the following ingredients:
Adverts
- 2 cups of wheat flour;
- 180ml of water;
- 4 tablespoons of oil;
- 1 teaspoon of salt.
Not much, right? Just imagine when you discover that the preparation method is extremely simple!
To start, mix the salt and flour in a large bowl or basin, make a small hole in the mixture and pour the oil and half of the warm water, approximately 90ml, into the middle.
Using a spatula, mix these ingredients and then, after a while, get to work, literally.
Take the dough out of the bowl and place it on the counter, using your hands start to knead the dough, it is nothing more than kneading until it reaches the expected point.
Keep kneading until the dough is fluffy, smooth and soft. To help with this, you may need to add more water. Do this very little by little so that it doesn't lose its consistency.
If by chance the dough becomes too wet, don't despair, there is a way to save it, just add a spoonful of wheat flour.
Put a spoonful of oil in the bowl and return the dough to it, cover and let it rest for at least 15 minutes.
After it has rested, put flour on your counter and start separating the dough into equal parts.
With each piece, make a small ball, using a rolling pin, try to form shapes that are similar in terms of lines.
And to get it the way we know it, you will need to put the frying pan on medium heat, at this stage you don't need to grease the frying pan with anything, just put your tortilla in.
It is normal for the dough to start to form bubbles, pop them and leave them in the pan until golden on both sides.
2 – Gluten-free tortilla
We also brought a more option healthy for those who have a gluten-restricted diet, or simply prefer not to eat it.
For this recipe you will need the following ingredients:
- 1 American cup of hot water;
- 1 and ½ cups of cornmeal;
- 1 pinch of salt;
- 2 tablespoons of oil.
In a bowl or basin, add the cornmeal, salt, oil and water, mix with your hands until you obtain a smooth, soft and homogeneous dough.
If necessary, add water to reach this point. If it is too wet, add more cornmeal.
Divide the dough into pieces that are as similar in size as possible, each piece will become a tortilla.
Use a rolling pin to roll out the dough and make the tortilla-shaped discs we are familiar with.
Place the dough in the hot frying pan over medium heat and let it brown on both sides, which should take 1 minute or less.
Then just fill the gluten-free tortillas as you wish, with guacamole, chili, sour cream or even jam. It's up to you!
