Well, you should know that it comes from the largest country on the planet, Russia, which has a culture and a very rich cuisine.

Although there are ingredients in this recipe that you may not be used to, it has an authentic flavor that you need to make, so let's cook it!

Ingredients for the original Russian stroganoff recipe:

  • 1 small box of cream
  • 500 g of meat
  • 2 large onions
  • 3 fresh sliced mushrooms
  • 2 tablespoons freshly picked
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • salt, paprika and dill to taste
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 1 dash of oil

METHOD OF PREPARATION:

  1. The first step in this recipe is to choose a quality piece of meat, cut it into thin strips about 0.5 cm thick. Then season with a light pinch of salt and set aside.
  2. Then heat a long frying pan and add the butter and oil and wait for it to get hot.
  3. Then, slice and add the onions, sautéing briefly over medium heat until golden. Add the fresh mushrooms and sauté again for a few minutes until golden.
  4. Then, sear the seasoned strips of meat over medium to high heat, just to brown. Add the cream, fresh curd and mustard and mix everything together.
  5. Now, leave the pan covered and cook over low heat for around 15 minutes, to enhance the flavor.
  6. Finally, add salt, paprika and chopped dill. Serve hot right away!

The possible origin of stroganoff

Even though its origins are uncertain, many gastronomic historians say that the recipe as we know it, made with pieces of meat, cream, onions and mushrooms, dates back to the 19th century.

It was in Russia that a French chef made this dish for Count Pavel Stroganov and his family.

The original recipe used sour cream (or smetana as it was known) and was called beef stroganoff with mustard.

Soon after, the French chef added his influence from French cuisine: paprika and mushrooms. The Americans added tomato sauce or ketchup.
