To prepare this marshmallow similar to the North American ones, you will need the following ingredients:
- 2 cups of sugar;
- 2 egg whites;
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla essence;
- icing sugar;
- 1 tablespoon of corn glucose;
- 2 packets of unflavored gelatin powder;
- 300ml of water (will need to be divided into two 150ml parts).
To prepare, place a pan over low heat and add the sugar, corn glucose and part of the water, stir and leave on the heat until it reaches a point similar to candy.
If you have any doubts about the consistency of the candy, you can test it by mixing a little water into the syrup. If it is at the right consistency, it will form a small ball.
In a mixer, place the egg whites and beat until they are firm, like stiff peaks.
Once this is done, add the syrup made at the beginning to the egg whites slowly and carefully, always beating. Do not turn off the mixer during this process.
In another container, dissolve the gelatin following the instructions on the packaging, add the vanilla essence and mix carefully.
Place this mixture in the mixer and let it beat for about three minutes. Now, you will need any type of container, bowl or Pyrex dish, but preferably rectangular or square.
Grease the bowl with powdered sugar and pour all of your marshmallow into the container, finally sprinkle more powdered sugar, as much as you want.
To reach the desired consistency, place it in the fridge for approximately six hours. After this time, cut your marshmallow into cubes.
If you want to spice up the recipe a little and make it more fun, you can also add food coloring to make it more colorful, ideal when made for children.
And you can prepare recipes with your marshmallow too, like the famous s'mores, fondue, brownies, cookies or just bake them.
These are just a few suggestions, but you can let your creativity flow and try different combinations and preparations with American-style marshmallows. Enjoy this delicious sweet treat in your recipes!
