Who created donuts?

Do you know where donuts came from? These sugary pastries that may or may not have toppings are even addictive for some people, they are so delicious.

It is estimated that donuts appeared around the 16th century in Europe. Historians believe that the first appeared at the hands of Dutchmen, who called them “oliekoeken”, or oil cakes.

And it was through Dutch colonists that donuts arrived in North America, where they were made with bread dough and fried in oil.

Apple donuts recipe

And now that you know a little more about history of donuts, We can introduce you to this wonderful and delicious apple donut recipe.

To prepare, separate the following ingredients:

  • 2 medium apples;
  • Icing sugar for sprinkling;
  • 2 eggs;
  • ½ cup of milk;
  • vegetable oil for frying;
  • ¼ teaspoon of nutmeg powder;
  • 2 tablespoons of melted butter;
  • 2 tablespoons of lemon juice;
  • 2 cups of wheat flour;
  • ½ cup of sugar;
  • 2 teaspoons of baking powder;
  • ½ teaspoon of salt;
  • ½ teaspoon of cinnamon powder.

Start by peeling the apples, remove the core and cut them into small cubes. Place the apple cubes in a bowl and sprinkle the lemon juice on top, this will prevent them from oxidizing and darkening.

In another larger bowl add the wheat flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, ground cinnamon and nutmeg, and mix.

Now in another bowl add the liquids, milk, eggs and melted butter and mix. Take this mixture of all the liquid ingredients and mix with the dry ingredients until the dough is homogeneous.

When the dough is smooth, add the apple cubes and mix gently and set aside.

Then heat the vegetable oil in a deep pan to at least 180° C. It can be difficult to know the temperature without a culinary thermometer, so the ideal would be to use this instrument.

Using two spoons, take a few dollops of batter and carefully drop it into the oil. You need to be careful at this point so that you don't burn yourself with the hot oil.

Fry them for about 2 minutes on each side until they are golden on both sides. Using a slotted spoon, remove from the oil and place on a paper towel to remove excess oil.

And it will be ready, easy isn’t it? And if you want, just sprinkle icing sugar on top to give it more flavor.
